We invite you to join with Alabama's award-winning Newspaper In Education program in preparing today's students for tomorrow's challenges.
The Newspaper In Education (NIE) program is a combined effort of businesses, community organizations, individual donations and the Press-Register to support local schools by providing needed educational materials.
NIE utilizes the newspaper in the classroom as a timely learning tool. Curriculum manuals are provided that contain teaching materials and exercises using the newspaper geared toward virtually any subject and every grade level. Teachers receive instruction and ideas through NIE seminars which show them how to effectively use the newspaper as a teaching tool.
The NIE program works! In 2001, the Press-Register was honored in Washington, D.C., by the Newspaper Association of America for the implementation of her "Will Read" program at Williamson High School. After "Will Read," the number of seniors meeting state standards went from 67% to 87%. This award was one of only five given nationally..
As a person concerned about enhancing the education experience, we would like to offer you the opportunity to be a part of this worthwhile program.
